Applications are now being accepted for the JoVE Librarian Travel Award to the Charleston Library Conference; Deadline is August 1, 2018

JoVE, the leading producer and publisher of scientific video resources, is proud to support the professional development of academic librarians by sponsoring a travel award to attend the Charleston Library Conference.

Each year, hundreds of librarians and publishers gather in the historic city of Charleston to meet and interact. The Charleston Conference is an information forum for a wide variety of information professionals to discuss the issues important to them. JoVE is a participant in the Charleston Conference and wants to encourage more librarians to attend it and add their voices to the key conversations about the industry.


Award Details

JoVE will pay for and organize your travel, accommodation and conference registration.

We will be inviting four librarians from the following countries, as follows:

  • Two recipients from the United States or Canada
  • Two recipients from Europe or the Middle East


Submission Guidelines

Library outreach continues to be one of the most important (yet challenging) facets of the academic librarian profession. This award will recognize librarians who have established an effective and sustainable practice of communication with their institution's STEM students and faculty.

Interested librarians should submit:

  1. A short essay (1,000 words max) describing the outreach practices they have established, highlighting the different steps they took to make it successful.
  2. Examples of their outreach materials.

Preference will be given to innovative librarians and/or multimedia approaches in building strong relationships with STEM students and faculty.

Terms and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be currently employed as a librarian at an academic institution.
  • Submissions will be acknowledged and will be reviewed by a panel of librarians.
  • Submissions are subject to be incorporated in the development of content materials for dissemination to a wide librarian audience.
  • Applications must be received by August 1, 2018, and winners will be announced by September 1, 2018.
  • Awardees must attend the 2018 Charleston Conference and participate in JoVE events during the conference, including presentations, receptions, and other engagements.
  • Awardees are responsible for obtaining the proper U.S. visa, or authorization to attend the Charleston Conference if required. 
  • JoVE provides no guarantee that a visa will be issued. For international attendees, you may also need to obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before traveling to the United States. Please consult U.S. Customs and Border Protection for more information. If an awardee is unable to obtain a visa or authorization to travel, the travel grant may be awarded to another recipient.
